Cornelsen Ltd. and it’s staff has more experience in the use of catalytic oxidisers in the soil and groundwater remediation business than any other Company in the UK. Our Catalytic oxidisers are available for sale or rent.
Remediation Applications
A CatOx will generally be deployed when petroleum hydrocarbon contaminant concentrations are at or above 3 or 4 g/m3 and are expected to remain that hire for a reasonably prolonged period. A straight cost benefit analysis can be conducted between a CatOx and another treatment solution such as vapour phase Activated Carbon.
Catalytic oxidisers can also be cost effective for chlorinated hydrocarbons, however, the contaminant concentrations would need to be relatively substantial to justify the additional energy (such as electric heat or propane gas) that would be required to maintain the minimum required temperature due to the low calorific value of most CHCs.
Key Benefits
- Generally fixed monthly running costs;
- Despite the relative complexity, operation can be simple, robust and extremely reliable;
- Can significantly reduce the cost of vapour treatment compared to activated carbon;
- Extremely efficient
Operation
Cornelesen CatOx’s can be provided either as a stand alone system to treat the off-gas from an SVE or MPE system or indeed may be combined with an integral SVE system. In either case a Cornelsen CatOx is designed to take over primary control of any gas extraction system. This is an essential safety feature and also logical as, with PLC process gas control, the mixture of soil gases and dilution air can be automatically adjusted based on LEL readings and temperature through the CatOx bed.
