Remediation Applications
Particulates are frequently the feature of a groundwater remediation project which can lead to the highest maintenance and can inhibit the performance of other elements of a treatment system. Construction site dewatering projects are particularly susceptible to solids and clogging of a treatment system.
The Cornelsen Ltd. sand filter vessel range is identical to the Cornelsen Ltd. activated carbon vessels being one and the same. All Cornelsen Ltd. sand filters are combination sand filter and GAC units. As such, they are all pressure rated and equipped with pressure relief valves, anti-syphon loops and also backwash valves. The facility to backwash a sand filter is an essential requirement as, over time, they will clog.
Key Benefits
- A very wide range of pressure vessels ranging from 900 litres to 28,000 litres
- Intregral pressure relief and anti-siphon piping and backwash valves;
- “Off the shelf” hire and rapid mobilisation;
- Highly efficient treatment solution;
Operation
Connected via either rigid or flexible piping, sand filters are used to filter out and trap suspended solids and thus prevent their continued flow through the treatment system. Typically these will be deployed after any oil/water separation. We are often asked how frequently backwashing is required, however, this is entirely dependant on the solids content of the groundwater pumped, the particle size and the use of other solids separation devices such as Lamella Separators.

Tech Tip: It is absolutely essential for longer term projects to provide a backwash pump, clean water backwash tank and dirty water backwash tank. There is little value in backwashing the sand filters with dirty water, nor backwashing this dirty water back into the main inlet tank. Backwash pumps are usually capable of higher flow rates and pressure than simple transfer pumps.
